Partner departments to evaluate recruitment performance
The Commissioners will promote a deeper understanding by departments and agencies of the principle of appointment on merit on the basis of fair and open competition and of its effective application. They will collect information on the performance of individual departments in relation to the Recruitment Code and monitor the effectiveness of successful candidates to assure themselves that the recruitment process is delivering the best person for the job.
Contribute to the improvement of succession planning
The Commissioners will work with the Cabinet Office to develop the role of open competition in succession planning within the Civil Service.
Top 200 competitions
The Commissioners will continue to chair a sample of senior competitions, including those at Director/Director General level, which are open to applicants from outside the Civil Service. As part of their goal to regulate appointment on merit for all appointments in the Civil Service, the Commissioners will chair competitions for the top 200 posts, including internal promotions.
